4th Grade Takes on Austin, Texas

Our 4th graders recently had the incredible opportunity to bring their learning to life with a field trip to the Texas State Capitol in Austin!

After weeks of diving into our 4th grade Social Studies TEKS, students stepped beyond the classroom and into the heart of Texas history and government. Walking through the Capitol halls, they explored where important decisions are made, connected with the structure of state government, and saw firsthand the symbols, people, and stories that shape Texas.

From learning about the legislative process to understanding the importance of civic responsibility, this experience made abstract concepts meaningful and memorable. Students asked thoughtful questions, made real-world connections, and deepened their appreciation for what it means to be a Texan.

Experiences like this remind us that learning doesn’t just happen at a desk, it comes alive through exploration, curiosity, and connection. We are so proud of our 4th graders for representing our school with enthusiasm, respect, and a true love of learning!

Three young students sitting at a desk in a classroom, drinking from cups and holding a book titled "We Are All Wonders".

Our first grade students recently hosted a fun and exciting “Starbooks” celebration to showcase their persuasive writing. The classroom was transformed into a cozy café where students became authors and reviewers, proudly sharing their book reviews with their friends.

Throughout the celebration, students practiced persuasive writing by explaining why others should read their favorite books. They worked hard to include strong opinions, clear reasons, and details to convince their audience. During the event, classmates listened carefully as each student shared their review and recommended their favorite stories.

The “Starbooks” celebration gave students a chance to practice speaking, listening, and celebrating each other’s work in a fun and supportive environment. It was wonderful to see our young writers grow in confidence as they shared their ideas and encouraged their friends to discover new books.

We are so proud of our first grade authors for their hard work and creativity. Their love for reading and writing was truly worth celebrating!

We were so excited to welcome our very own superintendent, Dr. V, to visit our morning broadcasting team at Sherry and Paul Hamm Elementary! Our student broadcasters work hard each morning to bring announcements to our school, and it was a special moment for them to share their studio with such an important guest.

Dr. V spent time learning about how our students prepare and deliver the daily announcements. The highlight of the visit came when Dr. V jumped on the broadcast and helped deliver a cheerful “Good morning!” to all of our Hamm Heroes across campus.

Our broadcasting team did an incredible job showing leadership, confidence, and teamwork during the visit. Experiences like this help our students see how their voices matter and how the skills they practice each day connect to the larger school community.

Thank you, Dr. V, for taking the time to visit and encourage our students. It was a morning our Hamm Heroes will definitely remember!

Hamm Students Explore the Universe with the SkyDome Planetarium

Students at Hamm recently had the exciting opportunity to experience the SkyDome Portable Planetarium, thanks to the generous support of our PTO. This incredible on-campus program brought space science to life in an engaging and unforgettable way.

The SkyDome transformed our school into a planetarium experience as students entered a large inflatable dome and took part in an immersive presentation of the night sky. Using high-quality digital projection, students explored the Northern Hemisphere sky, learned about constellations, and discovered fascinating facts about the planets in our solar system.

Throughout the experience, students were able to see realistic views of space and deepen their understanding of astronomy concepts in a way that was both interactive and inspiring. The presentation encouraged curiosity, critical thinking, and meaningful connections to classroom learning.

We are incredibly thankful to our PTO for funding this unique learning experience. Their continued support helps create opportunities that enrich student learning and make school memorable in the best way.

A&M AgriLife Extension Brings Landforms to Life for Hamm Elementary Students

Hamm Elementary welcomed the A&M AgriLife Extension team this week for an exciting and interactive science experience. Our 4th and 5th grade students explored land formations in a whole new way through a hands-on presentation featuring an impressive 3D topographic model.

Students learned how different landforms are created, how they change over time, and how natural forces shape the world around us. The AgriLife team guided students through demonstrations, real-world examples, and engaging discussions that made complex concepts easy to understand.

The highlight of the visit was the 3D model, which allowed students to see mountains, valleys, rivers, and other land features up close. Students were able to interact with the model, ask questions, and make observations that deepened their understanding of earth science.

We are grateful to A&M AgriLife Extension for providing such a meaningful and memorable learning opportunity. Our students had a blast exploring the science behind the landforms they study in class, and they walked away with a stronger grasp of the world beneath their feet!

Hamm Elementary 5th Graders Bring Colonial America to Life

This week, our 5th grade students at Hamm Elementary proudly hosted their annual Herotown Colonial Presentation, a beloved tradition that transforms learning into a hands-on, immersive experience.

Students researched the many trades and roles of Colonial America, then worked in teams to design and build their own colonial storefronts complete with props, signage, and historically inspired details. From blacksmiths and apothecaries to cobblers and candle makers, each shop showcased the unique skills, tools, and daily life of the colonial time period.

To share their hard work and historical knowledge, our 5th graders invited lower grade levels to step into “Herotown” and explore. Younger students had the chance to visit each storefront, ask questions, and learn directly from our young historians, bringing the rich history of colonial life off the page and into the real world.

The day was filled with creativity, curiosity, and fun. We are so proud of our students for their effort, teamwork, and enthusiasm in making this year’s Herotown presentation such a memorable learning experience!
